Man United will need less than previously reported to sign Napoli’s Victor Osimhen

by Joe Taylor

Victor Osimhen’s next move will be for a big sum of money as clubs already look towards signings in the summer.

Despite the January transfer window closing only at the start of the week, clubs are already switching their attentions to the next one.

One of Erik ten Hag’s primary positions in the summer will be finding a long-term solution in the striker role.

Harry Kane has been sounded out as a target the manager wants to bring to the club but Osimhen has been mooted to be the favourite.

According to ESPN, Man United and other suitors such as Paris Saint-Germain will be expected to pay a fee of at least €100 million (£89m) to secure the Napoli striker.

The outlet says this comes from “a source with knowledge of the player’s valuation”.

Given that several recent reports have been talking in terms of figures between €120 million and €150 million, the source’s figure will come as a welcome indication to United that Napoli’s demands are not as excessive as had been thought.

It is also worth noting that he only has two years left on his contract, which could force the Italian club’s hand to some extent.

Wout Weghorst joined United on loan last month but isn’t expected to be Ten Hag’s long term solution to the position.

Osimhen has become one of Europe’s most wanted after impressive displays in the Serie A this season.

He has scored 15 goals in 20 appearances in all competitions and has been a bright spark for the side, who currently sit in first place.

Given the amounts paid for the likes of Antony, Darwin Nunez and Enzo Fernandez in the last six months, €100 million for Osimhen would not be an unreasonable figure.
