Manchester United submit letter of interest for Atalanta star Rasmus Hojlund

by David O'Neill

Manchester United have signalled their intent to sign Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund in the summer, but face competition from Real Madrid.

Reliable Danish outlet BT reports that both of the European giants have submitted written statement expressing their interest in the player.

While that does not constitute a formal offer, it is likely a move to ensure that both clubs are kept abreast of developments concerning Hojlund.

The Serie A star is also subject to the attentions of Chelsea and FC Barcelona, with the former reportedly having met Atalanta president regarding a potential €68m deal.

AC Milan, Napoli, Juventus, Arsenal, and Bayern Munich are also thought to be monitoring the player, with the dearth of quality centre forwards on the market helping to make Hojlund one of the hottest properties on the market.

The striker’s own attributes, of course, have a lot to do with that as well.

Having only signed for Atalanta form Sturm Graz in the summer for €17.2m, Hojlund was initially eased into the Italian side, only becoming a regular starter in January.

Nevertheless, he has managed to score seven goals and provide three assists for the Bergamo side, while showing off a unique skillset. He also scored five times in his first two starts for Denmark in March.

His combination of pace and power has seen him compared to Erling Haaland, although Hojlund is more than happy to drop deep and link play. His work rate is also exemplary, as is his dribbling ability – in spite of his imposing 6’4” frame.

That could well make him a fantastic fit for Erik ten Hag, who recently described his ideal striker as relayed by The Peoples Person earlier in the week.

As for Hojlund, he recently left his agent and is seeking new representation. Once that matter is resolved, it seems he will have his pick of clubs.

With Manchester United making their interest concrete, he may well end up at Old Trafford.
