The summer transfer window is fast approaching and Manchester United will be linked with a raft of names to bolster their squad for next season in the coming weeks.
One player at the top of everyone’s wish list is Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham.
Bellingham is one the hottest young properties in the European game and finds himself in the rare position of having the pick of his next destination.
As reported by German football journalist Christian Falk, Bellingham is expected to leave Dortmund this summer.
Liverpool looked in pole position to land the 19-year-old but Jürgen Klopp has since distanced his side from the transfer, due to eye-watering fee.
Dortmund are asking for north of £130 million for their prized asset, should he leave in the coming the months.
However Falk reports that Liverpool may still harbour hopes of the deal, with no other clubs willing to pay that price at this time.
“Jürgen Klopp is always saying ‘we have no chance, we have no chance’. Don’t believe him – he’s also still hoping,” said Falk.
Dortmund may have to lower their asking price if they are to cash in on the midfielder, whose value drops the closer it gets to the end of his contract, which expires in 2025.
United boss Erik ten Hag is another keen admirer of Bellingham and would love to make him part of his Old Trafford revolution.
Bellingham’s quality and temperament look tailor-made for United and the prospect of him in midfield with Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes is a tantalizing one.
United would have to pull out all the stops to persuade the England international to move to Manchester United, with all of Europe’s major clubs circling.
Manchester City have now emerged as the favourites for his signature but expect many twists and turns in this saga, which is likely to drag on all summer.
