“I like it”: Marcel Sabitzer discusses new position change sanctioned by Erik ten Hag

by Derick Kinoti

Manchester United midfielder Marcel Sabitzer has expressed just how much he is relishing and enjoying playing in a more advanced position.

Sabitzer, who is on loan from Bayern Munich until the end of the season, has been playing in the playmaker role which has allowed him to play higher up the pitch and in the process score goals.

The Austrian was a menace at Old Trafford during United’s 2-2 Europa League quarter-final draw against Sevilla.

It was Sabitzer’s impressive first-half brace that gave United a commanding advantage before they threw the lead away during the second period of the game.

Against Nottingham Forest, Sabitzer was due to feature in the same capacity but had to be pulled out of the starting XI after sustaining a small groin injury.

Sabitzer was replaced by Christian Eriksen.

The Bayern Munich loanee spoke to club media and said, “Yeah, my position changed a bit in the last three or four games, so I’m a bit higher up. I like it.”

“It works out so it’s very nice scoring goals. It’s the best thing you can do to help the team, so I want to keep going.”

The 29-year-old also had his say on United’s upcoming FA Cup semi-final tie against Brighton at Wembley on Sunday.

Sabitzer reiterated that United’s only objective is winning and proceeding to the final where they will either face Manchester City or Sheffield United.

“The cup competition is always nice, [that was the case] in Germany as well. I know about the meaning: it’s very important for the club and for the fans, so yeah we’re looking forward to the game and we want to go through.”

“It’s always special, the knockout games. It’s nice and we all love these kind of games, so as I said we want to go through. We’ll give our all and we want to reach the final.”

The midfielder told club media that he is excited about the prospect of playing at Wembley in front of a packed stadium with an electric atmosphere.

Sabitzer warned against underestimating the Seagulls and pointed out that they are a quality side who have a lot of different ways to hurt their opponents.
