Man United’s Alvaro Fernandez admits the final decision on his future lies with Erik ten Hag

Manchester United defender Alvaro Fernandez has conceded that he does not know where his immediate future lies.

Fernandez has spent the entire season on loan with Preston North End. The Spaniard won Preston’s Young Player of the Year award for his positive contributions at Deepdale.

Under Ryan Lowe, Fernandez made a total of 42 appearances, including 39 in the Championship.

The 20-year-old spoke to Preston’s club website and reflected on his time in England’s second division.

The player labelled his loan spell as “great” but could not definitively say where he will be playing football next season – whether that’s at Old Trafford or out on loan again.

Fernandez remarked that he will go for pre-season with the Red Devils before Erik ten Hag decides his future.

“It’s been very good. It was a great season for me with great people around me. I think I played 42 games and I never thought it was going to be like that.”

“I just want to say thank you for the confidence from the staff and everyone – from my teammates, it’s great, and when the fans support you like that it’s easy.”

Fernandez explained just how much he has learned while out on loan. He pointed out the tough nature of games in hostile atmospheres as something that has aided his development.

The former Real Madrid man added, “Hopefully, that is my dream now [to play for United]. For the next season I have to come back in pre-season and we’re going to see.”

“Erik ten Hag has to choose if they want me there or if they don’t want me. they let me go on loan again, I don’t know yet. I don’t know what’s going to be my future.”

“Hopefully I can know where is going to be my future, but I don’t know yet.”
