Manchester United appear to have a free run at Jeremie Frimpong

by Red Billy

Manchester United are leading the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, according to a reliable German transfer specialist.

The Dutchman has been outstanding for Leverkusen this season, scoring eight goals and providing six assists in 31 appearances so far.

Right back has been a problem area for United boss Erik ten Hag, with both Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka capable of extremely competent performances one minute and poor ones the next.

Ten Hag has often alluded to the fact that he sees Wan-Bissaka as stronger defensively and Dalot better offensively but it is no secret that the manager would like a player capable of doing both at the highest level.

According to journalist Christian Falk, writing for caughtoffside, “Leverkusen knows it’s likely they’ll lose Jeremie Frimpong (they’ve already bought a replacement).

“They haven’t heard anything from Real Madrid and there’s no interest from Bayern Munich.

“The situation is that Erik ten Hag and Manchester United are at the front of the queue. The Dutch connection could work and we think that, at the end, the player will end up at Manchester United, as the interest from the club is more concrete than any other.”

Falk’s comments suggest that United have almost a clear run at a player valued at €35 million by transfermarkt.com.

And previous reports claimed that the Red Devils had already reached an advanced stage of negotiations.

Yahoo Sport recently reported that the Bundesliga club are demanding €50 million for the 22 year old.

Given that United paid more than that for Wan-Bissaka four years ago, and that they should be able to recoup a good chunk of that money if they were to move him on, it would seem at the moment that the only thing standing in United’s way of clinching a deal for Frimpong is the ongoing uncertainty over club ownership.

With the sale of the club not yet agreed, the transfer budget is unknown and the situation is throwing summer transfer plans into chaos.
