Andre Onana’s future at Manchester United remains up in the air amid the impending arrival of Senne Lammens on transfer deadline day.
The Cameroonian shot stopper has failed to live up to the billing since moving to Old Trafford from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023.
Recent reports have suggested that the Premier League giants have already agreed a deal with Royal Antwerp to bring in Lammens this summer.
United will reportedly pay £21m plus add-ons for the 23 year old, who is set to sign a five-year deal with the club.
The Belgian is highly rated in the European circuit and could become the new No. 1 for the Red Devils. However, it appears that Onana isn’t willing to throw in the towel just yet.
According to ESPN, the 29-year-old wants to stay and fight for his place under Amorim, even as Galatasaray consider a move.
Onana eager to answer his critics
Galatasaray were previously interested in Manchester City’s Ederson, but the Brazilian is apparently on his way to Fenerbahce instead. The situation has forced the Turkish club to turn to Onana.
While the Cameroonian hasn’t been in his element with United, the Lions are willing to bet on the player.
However, Onana doesn’t anticipate a move this summer. Instead, the former Barcelona academy player wants to stay at Old Trafford and prove his naysayers wrong.
Onana’s stock hasn’t improved this season
Last season, Onana registered 11 clean sheets from 50 games across competitions, conceding 65 goals. He lost his place to Altay Bayindir this campaign, with the Turkey international starting all three games in the Premier League.
Onana did feature against Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup, but had an outing to forget, conceding two poor goals as Amorim’s team bowed out of the tournament. Understandably, his situation with United remains fragile.
It is believed that Lammens’ arrival won’t be the end of the world for Onana or Bayindir at Old Trafford. However, the Premier League giants could consider a reasonable offer for the Cameroonian before the end of the transfer window.
