Manchester United have identified Aleksandar Pavlovic as the solution to their midfield woes – but it will require a record fee to prise the Bayern Munich maestro away from the Allianz Arena, according to a bombshell new report.
Midfield Metronome
Despite only turning 21 last year, Pavlovic has emerged as one of the finest deep-lying playmakers in Europe under the tutelage of Vincent Kompany.
The Germany international, who is expected to play a key role for his country at the World Cup in North America, ranks first for progressive passes in the Bundesliga this season. He is able to consistently feed Bayern Munich’s potent forward line with line-breaking through balls that unleash devastating attacks.
But the Munich native is also a force to be reckoned with when out of possession. He stands 6’2, possessing a powerful frame and the mobility to cover large spaces in transition. His defensive awareness and positioning are also strong for a midfielder so young, making him a complete player in the most important area of the pitch.
Comparisons to Ballon d’Or winner Rodri or Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets have already been made – a reflection of the prodigious talent Bayern have at their disposal. The scarcity of outstanding defensive midfielders only adds to the value the youngster holds.
However, this unique profile has made three members of England’s elite, including the Red Devils, take notice as they plot to add him to their ranks, even if it requires a fee in excess of £100 million to do so.
Sports Boom reveals United are joined by Chelsea and Manchester City in their admiration of Pavlovic, with each club having dispatched scouts to Bavaria this season – and received glowing reports in return.
“According to internal technical reports circulating among Premier League heavyweights, his profile is a rare hybrid of traditional defensive discipline and avant-garde offensive creativity,” the report states. “The intensity of interest from [England] is at an unprecedented level, creating a ripple effect across European front offices.”
United’s midfield conundrum
United are planning a comprehensive overhaul of their midfield this summer. Casemiro is set to depart at the end of the season as the Brazilian‘s contract expires, while the abject performances of Manuel Ugarte have cast doubt over his future at Old Trafford.
At least two new recruits are expected to arrive in their place, with INEOS prioritising a ‘Premier League-proven’ option, be it Elliot Anderson – the club’s first-choice target – or another option like Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton or Sandro Tonali.
However, targets on the continent are also being considered, with Pavlovic having been on United’s radar for many years. The German is seen as the solution to fixing an engine room on the verge of stalling once Casemiro’s exit is finalised.
“Intelligence reports indicate that Manchester United has initiated a ‘long-term shadow tracking’ operation on the player. United, looking to rebuild its tactical identity under new sporting management, views Pavlović as the key ‘metronome’ that could finally stabilize their midfield transition phases,” Sports Boom reports.
Bayern’s hierarchy are understood to consider their prized jewel an “unsellable” asset, though it is believed that a big-money offer would force the German giant to take stock.
“To even get Bayern to pick up the phone, sources suggest that an opening bid would need to be in the region of 90 million Euros. However, the realities of the 2026 market and the total absence of a release clause mean the final price will likely shatter the 110 million Euro barrier. This situation would make him the most expensive German player in history.”
Final Thoughts
A blockbuster bid in excess of €110 million (£96 million) would make Pavlovic the most expensive signing in United’s history, with the current record being held by the capture of Paul Pogba from Juventus in 2016. But this type of figure is exactly what is being discussed for targets such as Anderson and Tonali, two players yet to hit the heights of the Bayern maestro, despite being older.
If there is even the whisper of a chance the Red Devils can land Pavlovic, INEOS must move heaven and earth to do so. There would be no better option to replace Casemiro anywhere else in Europe.
Whether there is a remote possibility of this happening is another story altogether, though the financial dominance of the Premier League will always give its biggest clubs the chance of raiding their European rivals, whether they like to admit it or not.
