Manchester United defender Diego Leon’s agent has cast doubt on his future at the club ahead of the close of the window.
Gradual progress
Leon is still getting used to life at United and in a different country, having made the jump to Old Trafford from his native Paraguay last summer.
Arriving from Cerro Porteño as a highly-regarded left-back, the 19-year-old went on to take part in United’s pre-season tour under former boss Ruben Amorim.
Yet Amorim never afforded him a senior debut, with the teenager making the matchday squad just a few times before the Portuguese coach was sacked. Michael Carrick has also yet to hand Leon first-team opportunities.
Leon’s involvement has largely been restricted to United’s youth teams as he continues to adjust to the physical nature of English football. Last season, he registered 20 outings for the Under-21s. There had been talk of a loan exit but nothing materialised.
Now, his agent has suggested that the player could leave United this summer, although he didn’t clarify whether on loan or permanently.
Leon’s agent speaks
Leon’s agent, Renato Bittar, spoke to ABC Cardinal journalist Juanma Figueredo and opened up on his client’s situation.
Bittar said, “He’s in a growth phase, his body is handling the training load very well.”
“His future is still unclear, the club hasn’t asked us to let him go. We’ll see if anything comes up this week.”

Bittar’s remarks come as United ramp up plans to sign a left-back in the coming days.
Lewis Hall remains the priority target but Newcastle are refusing to entertain the prospect of an exit. Alejandro Balde of Barcelona and Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly are other names on United’s list but both of them want to remain where they are.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United want a left-back who is also capable of operating in central defence.
United are next in action on Sunday when they host Ipswich Town.
