Barcelona fans make their feelings about Fabregas leaving very clear

by Sam Peoples

Barcelona fans would not sell Cesc Fabregas to Manchester United, not even for €40 million, according to a poll conducted by SPORT.

A resounding 64% of fans who voted said that they would not sell Fabregas to United. They have no desire for him leave the Nou Camp this year.

The vote may be inspired by Thiago’s departure to Bayern Munich but it looks like Gerardo Martino would be risking a backlash from the fans if he was to sell Fabregas to United.

Thiago said that Barcelona did not do enough to keep him at the club and they didn’t, neither did the press. The club nor the fans seemed too fussed if he left, so he did.

But it is a different kettle of fish with Fabregas with the press, club and fans all reiterating that Fabregas is not for sale. He came through La Masia at the same time as Lionel Messi, he is loved by the fans and the thought of losing two world class midfielders in the same window looks to be too much.

One of the first things that Martino will have to deal with is Fabregas’ future. As with any new manager, he will not want to walk into Barcelona and play the same team that Tito Vilanova did. He will want to stamp his own identity on the club.

Should Fabregas not feature in his plans for the future, he may choose to sell him and reinvest the money on a different player. Barcelona would need to sell a player to fund further purchases because of the massive expenditure for Neymar, so it is not outside the realms of possibility that Fabregas could be that player if Martino decides so.
