Damm good player returns to Mexico after successful United trial

by Sam Peoples

Jurgen Damm has successfully completed his Manchester United trial and will return to his Mexican club Estudiantes Tecos this week.

The 20-year-old winger had come over to Carrington on January 20 for a trial after being recommended by Javier Hernandez’s agent Eduardo Hernandez.

An official statement from the club said:

“Estudiantes Tecos confirms that, thanks to the Pachuca Group along with other clubs, our player Jurgen Damm was invited to be watched by Manchester United of the Premier League.

“The forward traveled to England on January 20 to begin a period of observation under the club’s coaching staff, as they have two ways to integrate new players into the club and one of those is direct examination by staff in their own facilities.

“Damm will return to our city next weekend and will be back in the Estudiantes Tecos side on Monday, February 4 to continue his participation in the 2013 Clausura.”

Whilst it is exciting that a young Mexican winger was on trial at Manchester United, respected Mexican journalist Tom Marshall has his scepticism over whether Damm has what it takes to cut it at the top level.

He said: “Jurgen is a fast and tricky winger but he has only started two games in Mexico’s Second Division and that is what worries me.

“He’s been talked about for a while and the amount of interest suggests scouts see something.

“There has been a lot of Liga MX sides after him over the winter period.”

Jurgen Damm will now return to Mexico’s Second Division to continue playing for Estudiantes Tecos. The Peoples Person will be keeping up-to-date with any movement surrounding Damm in the next few months.
