Dante’s agent confirms there is no agreement with Manchester United

by Sam Peoples

Earlier today, Dante told Fox Sports Brazil that Manchester United were interested in signing him and one prominent commentator from Brazil went as far as saying that United had signed Dante.

However, his agent Marcus Marin has confirmed to The Independent that he is in negotiations with Bayern Munich over a new deal right now and that as of today, there is no agreement in place with United.

“There is no agreement with Manchester United,” he said.

“We are currently in negotiations with Bayern over a new year and his first option is to play there. He is very happy in Germany at the moment but if nothing can be arranged in the next few weeks then of course he would have to explore his options elsewhere.”

“Dante is at a crucial stage of his career so he needs to think about one last big contract. He has had a brilliant year and won several medals so we know how important the next few months will be. We are hoping that something can be resolved before the World Cup.”

For a wild five minutes, Dante had signed for United but now that the dust has settled, it looks like Dante has done nothing but use United’s name to force Bayern Munich into giving him a better deal to stay at the club.

It is a trick that agents have used over the years to increase interest in their clients and so it has proved today – Dante’s name is all over the English press.

However, he did leave a move open in case things don’t work out for Dante at Munich, as you would expect an agent to do.

He added: “If things don’t work out with Bayern then England would definitely be somewhere he is interested in playing.

“He will be in London next month to play against Arsenal in the Champions League so that will be a good opportunity to market himself in England.”
