David Moyes set to bring in another familiar face from Everton

David Moyes is close to adding the Premier League’s Head of Elite Performance John Murtaugh to his back room staff at Old Trafford.

Moyes worked with Murtaugh for two years before he became Fulham’s Head of Academy in 2004 and then for another four years when he rejoined Everton as Head of Performance in 2008, so he is familiar with how he works.

According to reports, Murtaugh is not expected to come in and replace Brian McClair as United’s Head of Academy. He will instead take up a different role at Old Trafford.

Murtaugh has been the Head of Elite Performance for the Premier League since October 2012 and speaking about his appointment at the time, Murtaugh’s passion for youth development was clear.

“I can’t wait to take up my position with the Premier League because there has never been a more exciting time to be involved youth development in this country,” he said.

“I know from time at Everton how seriously Premier League and Football League clubs are taking elite performance and the challenge now is to ensure that our young English players can use it to help them compete with the best talent in the world.”

United have continued their long standing tradition of blooding our academy graduates into first team players with Adnan Januzaj this year and it is a trend that will always continue at Carrington.
