Fabregas open to Manchester United move if Barcelona accept record bid

by Sam Peoples

Cesc Fabregas would consider a move to Manchester United should Barcelona accept what is expected to be a club record transfer fee according to the BBC.

David Moyes’ public pursuit of Fabregas has been in stark contrast to how Sir Alex Ferguson conducted his transfer business. Having had two bids already rejected by Barcelona, United must be really confident that they have a chance of landing Fabregas if they are willing to go back with a third offer expected to be over the £30.75 paid for Dimitar Berbatov back in 2008.

The big pull for Fabregas at Old Trafford would be his role as the midfield linchpin, something he wouldn’t get at Barcelona until the retirement of Xavi. He may have had as many appearances last year as Xavi and Iniesta but he completed the full 90 minutes less than 20 times.

At United, he would be one of the first names on the team sheet. Alongside Carrick, he would be our architect and ahead of the 2014 World Cup, his game time would give him the best opportunity to become a regular starter for Vicente Del Bosque’s side.

“I am quite confident we will add to the squad. But what we have here is a really good squad of players already. You mustn’t forget about the quality that is already here at Manchester United.” David Moyes

Despite only moving back to Barcelona from Arsenal two years ago, Fabregas’ future at the club is under question given his public silence amid heavy transfer speculation.

And the fact that United have gone back with multiple bids is an indication of confidence. If we weren’t, it would be a pointless and embarrassing public pursuit of the player. Behind the scenes, United must have been given signals that there is a genuine possibility of signing Fabregas otherwise the continued chase wouldn’t make much sense.

With Fabregas now back with Barcelona, his representation is expected to make a public statement regarding his future and whether Moyes has been successful in wooing him away from Spain.
