Italian club president confirms Manchester United scouts watch ‘new Buffon’ every week

Livorno’s president Aldo Spinelli has confirmed that Manchester United regularly send scouts over to Italy every week to watch goalkeeper Francesco Bardi.

The 21-year-old is a product of Livorno’s youth system but is owned by Inter Milan and Spinelli praised his ability, likening him to a young Gianluigi Buffon.

“Bardi reminds me of a young Buffon,” Spinelli told TuttoMercato.

“He has enormous potential. Every week he is being watched by scouts from the two Manchester sides and other clubs.

“I just hope that Samir Handanovic continues to do well at Inter so they decide to let Bardi stay here with us…”

United already have a young Italian goalkeeper in Pierluigi Gollini who is currently captain of the Under-19 Italy side but in Bardi, Spinelli is confident he is one of the finest young goalkeepers in football.

He has made 11 appearances for Livorno in Serie A this season, keeping three clean sheets in the process, and made it clear he wants to become Inter Milan’s first choice goalkeeper in the future. Due to his desire to play his way into Inter’s first team, United will face stiff competition if the youngster that Inter paid roughly €5.3 million for if they want to bring him to Old Trafford.
