Manchester United release five players as clear out begins

by Sam Peoples

Michele Fornasier, John Cofie, Luke Giverin, Reece Brown and Luke Hendrie have all been released by Manchester United.

They become the first players to depart the club since David Moyes’ appointment as manager following Sir Alex Ferguson’s resignation.

It doesn’t come as a surprise to anybody who has followed the U21s this season. Cofie had semi-successful loan spells out at Sheffield United and Notts County but never forced his way into Warren Joyce’s team.

Reece Brown spent time with Coventry and Ipswich where he only managed seven appearances while Giverin, Fornasier and Hendrie never really got off the ground at Manchester United.

With Moyes coming in as manager, big squad changes are expected at every level at United including the first team.

The likes of Nani, Anderson and Young all may leave in the summer transfer period given their lack of impact over the past two seasons and with Moyes making widespread changes to his coaching staff, it would be a surprise if he didn’t carry on the trend to the first team.
