Manchester United set to make their minds Schlupp over Ghanaian youngster

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United are expected to make a decision over whether to sign Jeffrey Schlupp from Leicester City this week.

The 20-year old Ghanaian international, worth a reported £1.5 million, has played twice for United’s U21s and his extended trial period has now ended with the club.

Whilst no formal discussions have taken place so far, Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson believes that there will be some developments in the next week.

Speaking on the situation, Pearson said: “I think we’ll be discussing this week what the next step is. He’s done well at United, he’s played the last two games that he can play there so clearly it’s going to have some effect this week.”

Schlupp impressed in both of his appearances with the U21s for his power, pace and penetration but lacked a clinical touch. He was very wasteful in front of goal and played very much like a young Sylvan Ebanks-Blake – powerful yet wasteful.

Saying that, he is still very young and rough round the edges. The mere fact that he was twice granted an extended trial at Carrington is an indication that Warren Joyce and his staff see something in him and given that King and Brady both left on permanent deals in January, there is space in the ranks for a versatile attacker such as Schlupp.
