Moyes admits Manchester United may not sign anybody this summer

David Moyes has admitted that Manchester United may not make any signings this summer and feels that he is under no pressure to buy for the sake of it.

There are ten days left before the window closes on September 2 and many expected Moyes to bring in at least one midfielder to strengthen United in the middle of the park.

But the Scot will only bring someone to Old Trafford this summer if the right players are available.

“There is a need to do it but there is no pressure to do it,” he told reporters this morning

“We’ve been talking about it since I took the job on 1 July. I have an idea of where I’d like to strengthen and what we need to do.

“But we won’t do it because people like you tell us we should be signing players. We’ll do it because we think it’s the right thing to do. If the right players are available then great, but, if not, the first thing we’ll do is encourage our own young players in the squad to do as well as they did last year.

“There is a possibility [we won’t sign anybody] but the plan is we bring in one or two if we can. I think there is [value out there] but we have only targeted certain players and don’t have a big, big list. There are only certain quality players we want to bring to the club.”

Moyes’ proclamation that there is a need for United make a signing without there being a pressure to is a bit of an oxymoron. There would be no need if pressure didn’t exist.

United have so far been rebuffed in their advances this summer for Cesc Fabregas, Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines but Moyes hit back at reporters who questioned his double bid for Everton’s Fellaini and Baines.

“Everybody is allowed to make offers,” he said.

“You don’t need to take them. You can say no. It is as simple as that. You can do that publicly or privately.”

There is now a worry that United will not strengthen their midfield once again as we are only an injury to Carrick away from having a woeful midfield.

Moyes also reiterated United’s stance that Rooney is not for sale and refused to entertain questions from reporters.

“We’ve told you, haven’t we?” he said. “I hardly need to repeat it again. It doesn’t need to be said.”
