Moyes confirms he wants signings in January and admits Kagawa concern

David Moyes has stayed very coy on who will and won’t be fit for Manchester United’s match against Newcastle tomorrow but admitted that Shinji Kagawa is currently 50/50 as to whether he will be able to play.

The 24-year-old suffered a health scare on Wednesday after an ambulance was called to his house because of breathing difficulties and his absence could put real pressure on the squad given that Wayne Rooney is suspended and Robin van Persie is unlikely to return.

“Kagawa’s had a sickness and has been unwell,” he told reporters at this afternoon’s press conference.

“I’ll see how he is tomorrow. I hope he’s available.

“We have got a few injuries, like every club. The injured players are all making progress and some have a chance [of being involved tomorrow].”

In the absence of Rooney, Van Persie and Kagawa, there would be a big opportunity for Javier Hernandez to step up to the plate and with the likes of Nani and Adnan Januzaj itching for a starting berth, it could be a very new look attacking United line-up tomorrow.

Newcastle go into the game off the back of a defeat to Swansea but prior to that had four wins in a row and Moyes knows that it will be a tough match.

Back under Sir Alex Ferguson, Newcastle beat United 3-0 at St James’ Park after Blackburn’s victory at Old Trafford to consign us to two defeats on the trot, something Moyes will want to avoid at all costs.

He added: “Four straight wins is a great record to get… but obviously they are coming to Old Trafford and we are going to make it as hard for them as we possibly can.”

Moyes also confirmed that he has every intention of bringing new faces into Old Trafford this January in order to strengthen the side which has looked worryingly thin at times this season.

“If we can do that we’ll try to make that happen,” he told reporters.
