PICTURE: De Gea will want to avoid a Thiago repeat with Koke

David Moyes watched Atletico Madrid take on FC Porto in Spain last night and spoke to Atletico’s director after the game had finished to fuel speculation he is weighing up a move for Atletico’s Koke,

The 21-year-old has been instrumental in La Liga this with Atletico sitting level on points at the top of the table (40) with Barcelona after 13 games and is seen by many as the perfect midfielder for Manchester United, like Thiago Alcantara was before him.

De Gea tried his best to urge his Spanish Under-21s team-mate Thiago to move to Old Trafford in the summer but he understandably followed Pep Guardiola to Bayern Munich, and there is every possibility that De Gea will have a word in Koke’s ear too. This time around, he could have a real influence.

Koke grew up with De Gea and their early careers almost mirror each other. They spent seven years together in Atletico’s youth side from 2001, broke into their B team in 2008 at the same time and joined up with the first team together in 2009 where they played alongside each other for another two years. That’s ten years they played alongside growing up from young boys.

This year has seen Koke’s stock shoot up thanks to his eight assists in La Liga and he earned a call up to the Spain squad back in August, so unlike Ander Herrera he has already broken into the national set-up. In every respect, Koke would be a fantastic addition to the squad.

Dave, work your magic.
