PICTURE: De Gea’s favourite addition at Old Trafford

David de Gea has swiftly become a fans’ favourite after overcoming a topsy turvy first year at Manchester United by transforming himself into officially the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.

Fans showed their appreciation earlier this season with an “In David we trust” banner unfurled away to Fulham and De Gea has admired his latest “Dave Saves” banner created by @BeckiOwen by having a snap with it at Old Trafford.

“I made it for the Reclaim United march before the Reading FA Cup match in Feb. De Gea had pulled off off some amazing saves in the Real Madrid game at the Bernabeu,” Becki told The Peoples Person.

And in a nice gesture by Ben Eastwood, Manchester United’s marketing manager, De Gea was snapped holding up the autographed flag so that Becki could have a photograph to remember.

“I didn’t know he was going to do that,” she continued.

“It ended up at Old Trafford as Stretford End flags tweeted that there was space to be filled with fan banners, it was up for a few games.

“The marketing manager then tweeted a thanks to me for letting them borrow it and someone suggested they get it signed for me.

“Which they did and they also got me a picture as well!”

The 22-year-old is currently away on international duty with Spain’s U21s and is yet to concede a goal despite being in the semi-finals. He has pulled off some great saves en route and has continued his fine domestic form for his country.

The more he plays, the better De Gea gets. When nearly £20 million is paid for a 20-year-old goalkeeper, you know there is something special about him. In years gone by, only Buffon and Casillas had established themselves as #1 at a major club so De Gea is in esteemed company.

And looking forward to next season, De Gea is only going to keep improving and United will keep reaping the rewards.
