Player Ratings: Kitchee FC 2-5 Manchester United

by Sam Peoples

Ben Amos 6 – Ben started the first and last of United’s tour games. Against Kitchee, he was relatively untested despite conceding twice. Couldn’t of done anything for the first and would be harsh to place any blame on him for the second.

Patrice Evra 6 – Evra had a bit of an up and down tour in Asia. He wasn’t up to his usual high standards but was certainly better than Buttner who replaced him.

Chris Smalling 7 – Two starts in a row for Smalling on the tour since returning from injury and it was a much better performance than his first. Made up for his mistake with a great goal.

Michael Keane 6 – Keane was given his first start on the tour and started off well but when Kitchee put the pressure off, the whole defence backed off and invited them forwards. Good in the one on one situation.

Fabio 7 – Moyes has decided to give Fabio a couple of games at right-back on the tour and Fabio has impressed. His performance against Kitchee was his best so far and included a stunning outside of the boot first time finish. Great attacking play and decent defending.

Anderson 8 – On the Asian leg of the tour, Anderson played the most minutes. He completed 90 minutes in two out of five games whereas he had done it less than 20 times in the past six years – a marked improvement. Energetic and lively, his aggressive style of play brought United forward. Should of scored as had a couple of gilt edged chances..

Tom Cleverley 6 – Like Anderson, Cleverley has had a lot of minutes this tour. Had an indifferent performance against Kitchee with some promising moments.

Michael Carrick 7 – The game always feels smoother when Carrick is on. His passing was accurate as ever and he brought a calm to the midfield it didn’t have in his absence.

Wilfried Zaha 8 – Another stunning performance from our new signing. He gave the defence no chance with his electric pace and decisive approach. Always got the cross in and his stunning no-look assist to Fabio was fantastic. Still, should of scored from eight yards out but spooned it over the bar.

Ashley Young 6 – Young, Young…still Young…goal kick. You would think that after watching Zaha tear up defences in Asia, Young would have the impetus to bring some energy to his performances but alas, it wasn’t the case. More of the same from the Englishman.

Danny Welbeck 7 – Three goals for Welbeck on the tour are hopefully just the beginning for him this season. Put Danny in his natural position, not on the wing, and he scores (go figure).

Substitutions

Adnan Januzaj 7 – His graceful touch and delicate ball control are a real joy to watch. He had more of the same against Kitchee. There is a big opportunity this season for Januzaj to stake his claim on some first team action.

Alexander Buttner 5 – The more Buttner plays, the less I like seeing him play. He converted from a left winger to a left back and it is abundantly obvious – he can’t defend. More interested in running forward than his defensive duties.

Jesse Lingard 7 – Like Lingard and Januzaj, the 20-year-old Warrington born winger has impressed on tour. His goal against Kitchee was the pick of the bunch and makes him our top scorer with four. He should get his chances this season.
