Real Madrid preparing for Ronaldo exit by buying Bale claims ex-president

by Sam Peoples

Real Madrid’s ex-president Ramon Calderon believes that Real Madrid’s pursuit of Gareth Bale is in preparation of Cristiano Ronaldo leaving.

Calderon failed to bring Ronaldo to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2008 and resigned amid controversy in January 2009 before Florentino Perez succeeded in signing him for a world record £80 million.

Ronaldo is known to not be happy in the Spanish capital and speaking to talkSPORT, Calderon insisted that Madrid’s willingness to break the world transfer record for Bale is because the club is preparing for the departure of Ronaldo.

“I know that he is not happy at all with the attitude and behaviour of the president,” Calderon said.

“He is asking for €20million net every season which is going to be difficult for Real to accept.”

“I think the president has all his eggs on the table just in case he can’t get the renewal of Cristiano. That is my impression.

“He’s afraid at some moment that Cristiano will say, ‘I am not going to go on’. That will be bad news for Madrid.

“I would like to see him retire at Real but now the situation is difficult. Let’s see in the next weeks or months if it can be sorted out and he can stay.”

If Ronaldo was to leave Madrid, a return to Manchester United would no doubt be his preferred destination. The fee would be astronomical but with sponsors likely to contribute and the revenue it would generate, maybe Ronaldo might come home.

There certainly wouldn’t be any better signing to help David Moyes’ career as manager off to the perfect start.
