Shinji Kagawa not satisfied with his first year at Manchester United

Shinji Kagawa has admitted that he was hoping to contribute more to Manchester United’s title winning campaign this season.

He started in August very well with a strong performance at Everton but failed to hold down a place in the starting XI with injuries blighting his progress.

And despite making it three titles in the last three seasons, Kagawa feels that he didn’t contribute as much as he did to Dortmund’s two titles.

He said: “I was looking to produce even more results. I was injured and I felt things didn’t go well easily.

“I had a lot of conflict, frustration and worries. In that sense, I think it has been a profound year.

“Honestly, I haven’t contributed as much as I did at Dortmund.

“I was even injured. I still don’t quite have that feeling of accomplishment.”

“I’ve managed to win three in a row. I think my career is bound to get better and better.”

Kagawa may not have set the Premier League alight in his first season with five goals and three assists in 18 appearances but he is one of the most exciting prospects going into next season.

His performance against West Ham was fantastic. Not just for the two assists but for the movement, incisive passing and light feet that made him such a threat to the Hammers defence. He hasn’t been played consistently in his best position and struggled to settle as a consequence.

It was far from a disappointing first season for Kagawa but the fact that he thinks so is fantastic. It shows that he has high standards of himself and won’t let United winning the title gloss over what he felt wasn’t a big enough contribution to the title.

With Rooney dropping deeper for game time, Kagawa has been allowed to play in his natural position in behind the striker and has flourished in the past few games.

Given the fact that he scored ten goals and had 17 assists in 38 appearances in his last season with Dortmund, there is so much more that Kagawa has to offer United.
