Shinji Kagawa tells David Moyes what he has been waiting to hear

by Sam Peoples

Shinji Kagawa has insisted he knows he must be flexible enough to play in a variety of positions at Manchester United in order to secure as much game time as possible.

The 24-year-old has now started four out of United’s last five games and his fitness looks the best it has since he moved to Old Trafford.

During those appearances, he has played across all of the front three positions including his preferred central role and speaking with United Review this wee, Kagawa admitted that versatility was something he was keen to show Moyes he had.

“I played behind the main striker at Dortmund, but I usually play on the left with Japan,” Kagawa said.

“I should be flexible enough to play in a number of roles, so I am a more attractive player to the team and can contribute even more.

“Every day I am learning how to trouble my opponents on the left, how best to cause them problems with my movement. But I would still like to be capable of taking up more positions.”

This is great to hear from Kagawa. No player can be spoiled enough to only want to play in their preferred position at United, you play where you are told by the manager.

Right now, Wayne Rooney is one of the most in-form players in the Premier League and he cannot be usurped from the No. 10 position.

Moyes will also be glad to hear it from the Japanese playmaker who is now starting to become one of United’s regular starters because versatility is a trait that any manager wants in a player. It means that Moyes will be able to use Kagawa in a variety of positions safe in the knowledge he will be happy to adapt to them.

Kagawa showed how devastating he can be when United played fast, incisive football against Bayer Leverkusen and the fact that he is ready to adapt himself to wherever he is needed means he will continue to be an essential player in the team, which is where everybody wants him to be.
