Anderson admits he would like to return to FC Porto

by Sam Peoples

Anderson has put fresh speculation over his Manchester United future by admitting that he would like to return to play for old club FC Porto.

The 24-year-old has once again been in and out of the team this season due to his persistent injuries and transfer talk has been rife about a move back to Portugal to Porto, where he spent nearly two years between 2006-2007 before joining United in a £17 million deal.

And in an interview with Portuguese TV show Grand Area, Anderson did nothing to stop the transfer rumours continuing to link him with a move away.

He said: “I would like to return one day (FC Porto) but would never play for Benfica. I’m pretty sure of that in my head, it is not in my plans to play at Benfica, while respecting what the club is. “

Quotes surfaced in February that Anderson had admitted to previously trying to leave the club several times in the past but the Brazilian moved to quash those quotes by saying he was “happy” in Manchester.

In December, Anderson was in blistering form before a hamstring injury against Reading ruled him out of first team action for a substantial period. He hasn’t managed to force his way back into the first team and despite a promising performance in the fixture against Reading last weekend at Old Trafford, he has once again become a fringe player – even having to play with the U21s to get game time.

Ferguson has been extremely patient with Anderson and given him lots of chances. However, he has been unlucky with injuries and struggled with his fitness for all six years he has spent at United. Now may well be the time for Ferguson to let Anderson go back to Portugal.
