From Spain: Manchester United to offer David de Gea plus €30m for Sergio Ramos

by Sam Peoples

It’s been less than 48 hours since Sergio Ramos was linked with a move to Manchester United but reports are continuing to gather pace very quickly.

Today, AS in Spain have gone with a front page splash dedicated to the Ramos and De Gea rumours. They say Man United are going to offer €30m plus De Gea for Ramos.

Yes, you did read that correctly. €30m plus one of the world’s best goalkeepers, aged just 24, for a 29-year-old centre-back. All in all, AS believe that values Ramos at a phenomenal €70-75m.

It takes a lot to surprise us in a transfer window when it comes to ridiculous rumours but this has to be up there with the best of them.

Ramos may be one of the most established centre-backs in the world but if he is at loggerheads with Madrid over a contract, why would United come in with such a lucrative offer for him?

Even letting De Gea move to Real Madrid in a straight swap for Ramos is a good deal for the Spanish club, without any added cash on top.

Whether Ramos actually moves to United is another thing but you get the impression that, for once, United are doing their utmost to make sure they aren’t left short-changed by Madrid.

It’s good to see United making it difficult for De Gea to move to Madrid. There is a clear intention to get as good a deal as possible and that is delaying negotiations, but so be it.
