Marcos Rojo bio
Marcos Rojo began his career at the age of ten at his local club Estudiantes de la Plata.
He signed a professional contract in 2009 where he played predominantly at left-back. During this time Rojo won two honours with the Argentinian side- a Copa Libertadores and an Argentine Primera Division title.
In 2011 Rojo signed for Spartak Moscow of Russia. This proved to only be a short spell however as the following year he signed for the Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon. It was during his first season at Sporting that he started to play regularly at centre-half. His second season continued to improve as he contributed six goals as Sporting finished runners up in the league.
In the pre-season of 2014 Rojo angered his employers by refusing to train in a bid to force through his transfer to Manchester United which was being held up by complicated issues over owning rights. The transfer was completed shortly after and as part of the deal between the clubs, Nani signed for Sporting on a season long loan.
Rojo’s official United debut was delayed whilst his work permit was approved before he made his debut in a comfortable 4-0 win over Queens Park Rangers.
The tough tackling, uncompromising defender has instantly become a fans’ favourite and has produced some assured performances at centre-half.
Rojo is also an established Argentine international having made his debut in 2011. Rojo appears more regularly at left-back for his national side, and his performances in the 2014 World Cup led to him being named in the Castrol Index team of the tournament.
