United keeper lined up as replacement for Barcelona bound Marc Ter Stegen

Borusia Monchengladbach are considering a move for Manchester United’s Anders Lindegaard according to Danish website┬áBT.

Marc Ter-Stegen is closing in on a move to Barcelona so the German side need to bring in a replacement and the out of favour Lindegaard has been touted as an option.

The 29-year-old has made only a handful of appearances this season thanks to the brilliant form of David de Gea and his situation as the back-up keeper at United isn’t going to change in the foreseeable future if De Gea can hold his fitness.

However, last week Lindegaard insisted he had no intention of leaving Old Trafford because of his lack of playing time and he really does sound like he means it. The way he refers to looking at his position objectively as ‘seeing the bigger picture’ of living out his dream at United is commendable and not an attitude by a footballer who doesn’t get to play much.

His agent Michael Stensgaard has also indicated that any development on Lindegaard’s future will be discussed in house first.

“There will always be interest for a goalkeeper of Anders’ qualities but what will happen to Anders in the future, we will discuss internally with Manchester United,” Stensgaard said.

As far as backup goalkeepers go, Lindegaard is a solid option for United. He is good enough to keep De Gea on his toes but content to watch from the sidelines unless he is called upon – not many goalkeepers would be happy to do that.

Alternatively, United would also be in a strong position if we were to sell him as we have Ben Amos waiting in the wings as well as Sam Johnstone with our academy.

If Lindegaard did want to leave in the summer, you couldn’t begrudge him that move for his career and he certainly wouldn’t leave on a sour note as he has served us well at times.
