On Wednesday morning, Manchester United unveiled their stunning new away kit for the 2026/27 season, including when it will make its first appearance.
New away kit
United formally announced the new away kit, sharing images of the breathtaking collection with the statement: “Always bold. Always brave. Always United.”
Featuring red and white striped trim on the collar and sleeves, the eye-catching blue strip pays tribute to United’s memorable 1988 third kit, which also showcased Adidas’ trefoil logo.

The blue, however, is steeped in deeper history. It was the colour of United’s first FA Cup success under Sir Matt Busby in 1948. And precisely two decades later, the all-blue kit made another iconic appearance at Wembley, as Bobby Charlton, George Best and their teammates dismantled Benfica 4-1 to secure United’s first-ever European Cup.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s all-conquering side, featuring Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, also wore it in the 2009 UEFA Champions League semi-final, when they made light work of Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Rooney was in the same blue colour, captaining United to the 2017 Europa League triumph over Ajax.
London-born rapper and high-profile United fan Stormzy seemingly leaked the shirt by wearing it to the World Cup final. It appears he was given exclusive access by the club, seeing as he later posted on social media, “(Manchester United) you’ve seen it here first.”

Supporters have taken to it instantly, and the blue shirt is already generating plenty of buzz across social media.
Debut date
United released a statement about the new away kit which reads, “It looks amazing and the good news is that you won’t have to wait long at all before seeing it in action.”
“Now we are set to wear the new blue away kit in each of our next two friendly outings.”
United take on Rosenborg in Trondheim on Friday after suffering a 1-0 loss to Wrexham last weekend. Kick-off is at 5 pm.

The blue shirt will then be worn eight days later when Michael Carrick and his players make their way to the Strawberry Arena in Stockholm to face Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.
