Manchester United have been working hard to improve the infrastructure around their club.

Ambitious plans

Last summer, the club completed work on their Carrington training complex, modernising and improving the existing facilities.

What’s more, there have been significant plans to build a new stadium adjacent to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have made good progress, having recently secured the land needed to begin the building work in the area.

Nonetheless, the club may be forced to carry out more work due to factors beyond their control.

Car Park issues

The Daily Mail reports, “Manchester United could see plans to extend the life of a car park at its training ground thwarted – thanks to concerns over the potential for a terror attack.”

The paper adds, “the Premier League giants want to extend the life of a temporary facility they brought in for contractors to use during the £50m refurbishment works at the Carrington complex by a further three years.”

Nonetheless, the police have “implored” the club to increase security measures should the plan get the green light.

United lodged planning permission with the local council, and the Greater Manchester Police have given their input.

They have liaised with Counter Terrorism, who have given some advice due to the high-profile nature of the site.

The police have warned that the lack of secure entry and exit for visitors is a concern. “They have also warned of the prospect of ‘bad actors’ entering the site among a group of pedestrians.”

In further problems for United decision-makers, locals have voiced their opposition to the plans.

Action group Friends of Carrington Moss have set out a four-page document criticising United’s lack of consultation with locals and the removal of trees and vegetation around the area.
