Manchester United are intensifying their interest in Elche CF’s David Affengruber.
Harry Maguire remains United’s only reliable, experienced central defender, with both Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt unable to shrug off their injury problems.
As such, the club’s recruitment team are thought to be open to strengthening their backline. However, INEOS need to be shrewd with their spending, as their priority is to overhaul the midfield.
Manchester United given edge in David Affengruber race
Earlier this month, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United are one of the options for David Affengruber, who is planning to leave Elche at the end of the season.
Now, Tutto Juve claims United are “in the front row” for Affengruber’s signature.
According to the Italian outlet, Juventus and AC Milan are pursuing the 25-year-old Austrian, but United are “most interested” in the central defender.
The 6’1″ star is regarded as “one of the most promising central defenders” in Europe, having impressed with his imposing presence and ability to play out from the back.
Interestingly, it is underlined that Elche are demanding €30 million (£25.9m) for the Austria international. However, Juventus “clearly” have no desire to go above €20m (£17.3m).
The report does not shine much light on United’s stance. However, Juventus’ reluctance to meet Elche’s asking price should give the Premier League giants an edge in the race.
Manchester United interested in Gleison Bremer
Qualification to next season’s Champions League has not only boosted United’s transfer warchest, but also made them an attractive destination for top players.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Juventus defender Gleison Bremer will listen to any offers that come in during the summer following the club’s failure to secure Champions League football.
The report added that United and Liverpool are interested in the Brazilian centre-back.
