Manchester United are reportedly inching closer to striking a deal for Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos.

Heading into the ongoing window, United’s priority was bolstering their midfield department after a season in which they finished third and secured Champions League football.
United moved with speed to wrap up a deal with Atalanta for Ederson. With Brazil now out of the World Cup, an announcement confirming his arrival is believed to be imminent.
That momentum proved short-lived for United, who were also left empty-handed in their pursuits of Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes. Michael Carrick’s side considered moves for both players but eventually backed out after learning of their exorbitant price tags.
Anderson and Fernandes have completed switches to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
Over the weekend, it emerged that the Red Devils have turned their attention to Santos. David Ornstein of The Athletic revealed that United were exploring a deal for Santos, who is eager for regular playing time.
It’s believed that Chelsea are open to letting the 22-year-old leave if they feel that it’s best for all parties. Now, Mike Keegan claims that United are closing in on Santos.

“Daily Mail Sport understands that a deal to bring the 22-year-old to Old Trafford is progressing, with talks now underway.”
“While he is highly-rated at Stamford Bridge, he is not deemed a regular starter and officials have been willing to allow him to leave for the right price.”
“They are seeking £50m and negotiations are continuing, according to those with knowledge of the situation.”
Whether United consider Santos to represent fair value at that price remains to be seen, but the indications that they are intensifying their interest are certainly noteworthy.
Santos made 43 appearances for Chelsea last season, contributing three goals.
