Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has officially left AS Monaco.

United career

The Frenchman spent a total of eight seasons at Manchester United over two spells.

He played seven times during his first term at the club, and when he spectacularly re-signed in 2016, he represented the club a further 226 times, scoring 39 goals.

Pogba won the Europa League and the League Cup with the club, but could not add any other trophies before his departure in 2022.

After leaving the club on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract, he rejoined Juventus, but injury ruined his return.

Shockingly, he was banned from playing football for four years after failing a drugs test, but the ban was reduced to 18 months on appeal.

Pogba then joined AS Monaco last summer, but could only manage six matches for the French club.

Release

The club’s official site reports, “the Principality club and the French international midfielder jointly announce the end of the venture that began during the 2025 pre-season.”

The statement also read, “having jointly concluded that the objectives initially set were only partially achieved, AS Monaco and Paul Pogba have decided, ahead of the first match of the new season, to bring an end to the contract that was due to run until June 2027. The Club would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner for the trust he placed in the institution and for the utmost professionalism he demonstrated throughout his time in Monaco.”

Pogba also gave his thoughts on the move on the club site.

He explained, “I would like to thank the President and the management, my teammates, all the staff members and every supporter who believed in me. Representing this club and the principality was an incredible experience. AS Monaco is an incredible club and although I did not play as many games as I had hoped, I will always be grateful for the opportunity to wear their colours.”

The former Manchester United midfielder will now have the next few weeks to sign as a free agent for another club to continue his professional career.
