There has been an update on the future of Manchester United youngster Jacob Devaney.
United decision
Earlier this month, a report covered by The Peoples Person indicated that United had made the decision to let Devaney leave on loan before the close of the summer window.
This came after the player’s remarks on his future, in which he expressed a clear desire for regular first-team minutes.
Devaney indicated that while his foremost objective remains breaking into the United first team, he is receptive to a temporary move elsewhere in order to showcase his capabilities.
He featured in United’s pre-season preparations, playing in the first two games against Rosenborg and Wrexham. Devaney scored in the latter as the Red Devils cruised to a 5-0 victory.
In both fixtures, he was deployed in central defence as opposed to his favoured midfield role. But he slotted in seamlessly and even drew praise from Michael Carrick.
Devaney spent the second half of last season out on loan at St Mirren and now, he looks set for another stint in Scottish football.
Hibernian development
According to Simon Stone of the BBC, Hibernian are working on securing Devaney’s services on loan for the 2026/27 campaign.
Stone writes, “Manchester United youngster Jacob Devaney is in talks with Hibernian over a loan move back to the Scottish Premiership.”
“It is understood there has been huge interest in Devaney. Talks with Hibs have reached an advanced stage, although the deal is not done.”
Devaney did well at St Mirren, so it’s little surprise that he is in demand. The 19-year-old made 18 appearances, 16 of which were starts.
Meanwhile, United kickstart their Premier League season on Saturday when they go away to Hull City.
