Manchester United are pushing to sign Alejandro Balde from Barcelona as their pursuit of a new left-back has intensified.
While Hull City left-back Ryan Giles troubled United’s backline with a stream of dangerous crosses, Luke Shaw rarely ventured forward in the 2-0 defeat away from home.
United’s left-back position was far from their only problem against Hull, but it is an area that should be the priority between now and the end of the transfer window.
Alejandro Balde deal looking likely after day’s developments
Earlier this week, The Peoples Person relayed a report from Fabrizio Romano claiming Manchester United are interested in Alejandro Balde.
Furthermore, it is understood Hansi Flick has given Balde permission to finalise his transfer away from Camp Nou. The Barcelona manager has even dropped the 22-year-old from his matchday squad to face Elche.
Balde came through the ranks at La Masia and is highly rated at Barcelona. However, he has fallen down the pecking order due to persistent injury issues and is now facing an uncertain future at his boyhood club.
Manchester United have made offer for Alejandro Balde
According to MARCA, Jorge Mendes landed in Barcelona this week with several offers for Balde and Marc Casado. He reportedly met with the club’s sporting director and the players to explain their options.
It is claimed Balde has three offers on the table.
One of the alleged offers is from United, who are thought to be in the lead for the Spaniard’s signature.
However, there are two other clubs also vying for his signature, and Balde’s decision is likely to dictate the direction of the rest of the negotiations.
As far as the player’s profile is concerned, Balde has the potential to be a major upgrade on United’s current full-back options in the final third, owing to his explosive pace and dribbling ability.
His tendency to maraud forward should help the likes of Marcus Rashford and Matheus Cunha by stretching the pitch.
