Manchester United’s priority during the final days of the summer transfer window was to bring in a left-back.

Their primary target was Lewis Hall of Newcastle United, but the Magpies refused to consider his sale and are now close to reaching an agreement with him over a contract renewal, making it difficult for United to revisit their interest.

However, United’s recruitment team have reportedly started to explore other options before the next window opens.

Manchester United interested in Daniel Svensson

According to Fussballdaten, Borussia Dortmund left-back Daniel Svensson is starting to attract the interest of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The 24-year-old, who featured in the World Cup for Sweden, enjoyed a promising last season in Germany after moving to Dortmund from Nordsjælland.

It is understood that Svensson is regarded as one of the most sought-after and closely watched players on the market. In particular, four top clubs are closely monitoring his situation.

Manchester United, Arsenal, Juventus and AC Milan have all shown interest in Svensson.

Dortmund view Daniel Svensson as crucial to their project

The report states that Dortmund consider the Swede an extremely valuable and versatile member of their side and have no immediate plans to part ways with him in the January transfer window.

Still, as is always the case, every Dortmund player has a price, and it is suggested that an irresistible offer could lead to negotiations being opened.

It is believed Dortmund would only enter into potential talks if a fee of around €35-45 million (£30-£39m) is offered.

In addition, performance-related bonuses and future transfer proceeds are also expected to be part of any negotiations.

Given the left-footed star’s versatility and tactical acumen, Svensson should certainly be on United’s radar, but at this moment it is too early to talk about his valuation.
