Manchester United have started the new season in disappointing fashion yet again, claiming four points from their first three games.
INEOS’ decision not to strengthen the defence has not helped, with the Red Devils conceding two goals in each of their opening three encounters.
One position that the co-owners should have reinforced is at left-back with Luke Shaw the only senior specialist option at Michael Carrick‘s disposal.
The Englishman’s poor injury record and mixed form are concerning, while academy graduate Harry Amass is reportedly not high in the head coach’s thinking.
Lewis Hall identified as Luke Shaw’s successor
The 20-time English league champions did try and sign Lewis Hall from Newcastle, only to be met with a firm response from the Magpies.
United’s focus on their midfield revamp meant that by the time they approached the St. James’ Park outfit, Newcastle already had made up their minds.
It has been relayed by The Peoples Person that INEOS will try and sign the Englishman next summer, with United confident they can get their man like they did with Carlos Baleba.

However, NUFCblog‘s latest update will not be music to the United co-owners’ ears. The left-back has reportedly agreed a new deal on vastly improved terms.
Lewis Hall not going anywhere
This effectively means Newcastle are in an even more advantageous position, and it will be extremely difficult to prise the 21-year-old from the Toon Army.
“NUFCBLOG can exclusively reveal that Lewis Hall is set to sign a new contract at Newcastle United after reaching an agreement with the club over significantly improved terms.
“It’s understood the deal is now in the final stages of being formalised, with legal formalities ongoing ahead of an official announcement.
“An agreement has been reached between all parties and the belief is that Hall has agreed an additional two years, which would effectively tie him to Newcastle for another five years.
INEOS need to recalibrate their transfer plans
“The improved terms are viewed as a reward for Hall’s performances over the past season and his growing importance within the first team.”
The report further adds that new boss Matthias Jaissle is a huge fan of the Englishman and he considers Lewis Hall as the cornerstone of his sporting project.
INEOS opted against going all out to land either of Alejandro Balde, Jorge Salinas, David Raum, or Rayan Ait-Nouri as they wanted to keep their powder dry in order to afford a move for Lewis Hall.
With this latest contract update, it remains to be seen how INEOS react and how they recalibrate their plans for a defensive revamp next summer.
