Former Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho’s career continues to be stuck in a mudslide.
United career
The 22-year-old Argentinian broke onto the scene in 2022 after winning the FA Youth Cup with the Red Devils, scoring two goals in the final.
Garnacho made his debut later that year for the first team and scored 26 goals in 144 appearances for the club.
However, things soured for the forward when he fell out of favour with Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim and he was sold to Chelsea in the summer of 2025.
Post-United
Garnacho spent one year at Stamford Bridge, scoring eight goals in 43 appearances for the Blues.
Nonetheless, he also failed to convince in London and was shipped off on loan to Aston Villa in the last transfer window.
Outlet Sports Illustrated have highlighted the struggle that the Garnacho has continued to face this season.
The site reports that, “Alejandro Garnacho was told by Aston Villa manager Unai Emery this week that he is “behind” and needs to “work” for his playing time. The problem is that several others have moved ahead of the on-loan winger in the Villa depth chart and his career has awkwardly stalled.”
The website also states that, “even with significant rotation from Unai Emery, Garnacho was left on the bench against Coventry. He played 31 minutes across Villa’s first three Premier League matches but was an unused substitute for the Nottingham Forest loss last weekend and appears to be dropping further away.”
Emery has also stated that the player “has to try and play well” should he get more opportunities in the future.
It is quite a dramatic fall for the 2024 Puskás Award winner.
His lack of form also excluded him from a spot in his nation’s run to the 2026 World Cup final.
