Manchester United have announced that Kobbie Mainoo has won the club’s September Player of the Month award.
Superb start
Despite Manchester United’s woeful form under Michael Carrick for the beginning of the 2026/27 campaign, Mainoo has been a huge positive.
Following a bitterly disappointing World Cup in which Thomas Tuchel consistently overlooked him, Mainoo has shrugged off the setback and produced a scintillating run of performances.
His on-ball brilliance was never in question, but he has evolved into a far more complete player, with a defensive steel and physical presence that have been genuinely admirable.
During United’s Champions League opener against Sabah FK, Mainoo demonstrated a notable aptitude for delivering accurate over-the-top balls. This, together with his developing partnership with Youri Tielemans, earned him considerable praise from Carrick.
A recent statistic highlighted that Mainoo has won possession more times (40) than any other Premier League player this season.
And now, United have revealed that he won the fan vote for the September Player of the Month award.

Mainoo’s triumph
In each of his four starts, Mainoo left his mark. He teed up Bryan Mbeumo against Everton and when he was withdrawn against Fulham, the fans made their feelings clear with a chorus of boos.
Mainoo came close to winning last month’s prize but was just beaten to it by skipper Bruno Fernandes.
According to United, the Carrington academy graduate warded off competition from Matheus Cunha and Tielemans to claim the September edition.
Mainoo garnered 82 per cent of the vote, with Cunha ranking in second place with 13 per cent. Tielemans managed five per cent.
The 21-year-old pulled out of England duty amidst fitness concerns. Hopefully, he is back in time for the meeting with Tottenham Hotspur on 10 October.
