Manchester United returned to winning ways with a 5-2 demolition of Ipswich Town at the weekend.
After the humiliating defeat to Hull City the weekend before, the Old Trafford crowd had something to smile about on Sunday evening.
This was in spite of the pouring rain that dominated the final 15 minutes of the match as the heavens opened above Manchester.
Problems
United are famously in the process of planning a new stadium and their iconic Old Trafford home has some well-known problems that are often highlighted by the media at any given chance.
One issue is the leaking roof that turns Old Trafford into a waterfall as cascades of water often belt down from the roof, soaking fans below.
The Daily Mail reports, “the club have launched a review of the latest problem and will make any necessary repairs, although insiders point out that the biblical scale of the storm was a mitigating factor and say other clubs have experienced similar issues.”
Other work done at the stadium this summer was that United ripped up and relaid the pitch and they also replaced the foundations and drainage system. A final change they made was extending “the playing surface to get rid of a hazardous drop-off around the perimeter.”
Suite issues
It was not just outside but also inside the stadium that saw problems on Old Trafford’s return to the 2026/2027 season.
The Mail adds, “United fans in plush hospitality suites costing as much as £5,000-a-year have been left furious at the standard of food and drink.”
At least one supporter has already filed a complaint about the low quality of food and demanded compensation.
In fact, “another fan claimed a hostess in the 1968 Suite was reduced to tears because of the volume of complaints. The supporter described it as ‘the worst corporate hospitality I’ve ever experienced at any sporting event’.”
It is even suggested that some fans decided to order the kids’ menu owing to the poor quality of the food on offer.
Many supporters are blaming Jim Ratcliffe for cost-cutting and also changing caterers back in June.
