Manchester United could reportedly be facing a battle to keep highly rated attacking prodigy Noah Ajayi amidst widespread interest.
Making waves
The buzz may be all about JJ Gabriel and his impending first-team breakthrough at United, but Ajayi is increasingly making a case for the spotlight too.
The left winger has enjoyed nothing short of a meteoric ascent through United’s academy setup, with the 2025/26 season standing out as a defining campaign in his development.
Ajayi made 18 appearances in the Under-18 Premier League, contributing seven goals and one assist. He also netted twice in the FA Youth Cup as United went all the way to the final.
The 6ft 2in Ajayi was born in Germany but moved to England at the age of 10 before earning a spot in United’s famed academy. He made his debut for the Under-21s at just 16, during a 4-1 victory over Reading. A day later, he turned out for the Under-18s, helping the team to a 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest.
Last summer saw Ajayi sign professional terms with United, placing him among the cohort of scholars anticipated to finalise scholarship agreements.
Though injuries have interrupted his progress at various points, Ajayi, dubbed a “perfectionist” by those who know him, has never lacked for ability. He remains one of the most likely candidates to step up alongside Gabriel into the first-team picture.
However, according to the Daily Mail, United must convince the 17-year-old that a clear pathway to the first team exists, or risk losing him this summer.
This is especially true after the recent acquisition of Tynan Thompson from Tottenham Hotspur.
Ajayi concern
The Daily Mail report that Ajayi was primed to feature in pre-season under Michael Carrick before he was sidelined with an ankle injury.
The news outlet states about the youngster, “[Ajayi] needs to see a pathway is there for him, too, amid interest from top clubs in Germany, Italy and Portugal.”
The identity of Ajayi’s suitors remains a mystery for now, but United are well aware that they cannot afford to be complacent.
For now, Ajayi’s primary concern will be getting back to full fitness.
