Manchester United have reportedly refused to give up on their pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, launching a fresh attempt for him.
Tchouameni interest
Heading into the ongoing summer window, it became apparent that United’s priority was strengthening the midfield, especially after Casemiro’s exit following the expiry of his contract.
Having missed out on top targets Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes, United turned their attention to another marquee player – Tchouameni. The Frenchman, who starred for his country in the World Cup, was branded a dream target for Michael Carrick’s side.
The word was that United would dig deep to bring him in, years after they had failed to act when he departed Monaco. The rumour mill offered two very different narratives: one that he was expendable under Jose Mourinho, and another that he was firmly part of the manager’s plans.
What was clear, however, was that Tchouameni was not actively seeking an exit from Madrid and would only entertain the possibility if he felt he was being forced out.
A report covered by The Peoples Person claimed that United had held exploratory talks with Los Blancos regarding the player. Personal terms were not expected to be an issue
And then came the moment that seemed to kill the speculation dead: Tchouameni and Madrid were on the cusp of finalising terms on a contract extension at the Santiago Bernabeu.
News on this front had gone cold until now.
Tchouameni twist
According to Samuel Luckhurst of The Sun, United are still determined to land the 26-year-old and have made fresh enquiries about his availability.
“Manchester United have enquired about Aurelien Tchouameni.”
“United not deterred by reports he has agreed a new extension at Real Madrid and there hasn’t been a formal announcement yet.”
“Mourinho planned on keeping Tchouameni but Rodri-Madrid links have ramped up since Spain won the World Cup.”

Rodri is understood to be desperate to join Madrid, although Fabrizio Romano reported that club president Florentino Perez was blocking the transfer.
Rodri’s World Cup heroics seem to have inspired a change of heart from Perez and there is a real chance that the Ballon d’Or winner moves to the Spanish capital. This could finally pave the way for Tchouameni to leave, as United patiently lie in wait.
