Jack Moorhouse is reportedly attracting plenty of interest, with Reading FC and Barnsley among those keen on signing him this summer.
United’s decision
While most of the focus has been on incomings so far, outgoings are equally important as United look to ensure that Michael Carrick is working with an optimal squad ahead of next season.
On the exit front, a number of young players’ futures are yet to be decided. United find themselves in an uncomfortable situation whereby several of their youngsters have outgrown youth football but are not quite ready to make the jump to first-team level at Old Trafford.
Moorhouse appears to fall in this category. He spent most of last season out on loan at Leyton Orient. The Irishman made 20 League One appearances, contributing one assist in that period.
One of the highest-rated players in United’s youth ranks, Moorhouse then returned to United and slotted back into the Under-21 set-up.
A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United have decided that another loan spell is the best option for Moorhouse.
The report claimed that there are “countless options” for him across League One. Now, ontheminute.com have revealed two of these potential destinations.
Moorhouse update
According to ontheminute.com, “Reading and Barnsley are showing interest in signing Manchester United youngster Jack Moorhouse on loan next season.”
“Ontheminute.com understands that both clubs are monitoring the midfielder’s situation as United consider the best development route for the highly rated academy prospect.”
“Reading and Barnsley are both keen to strengthen their squads and could offer the teenager a clearer route to first-team minutes.”
It’s understood that Reading and Barnsley are drawn to Moorhouse’s energy, technical ability and versatility in the middle of the park.
The question now is whether United view Reading or Barnsley as the ideal environment for Moorhouse to continue his progression. The two clubs finished within four points of each other last season.
