Manchester United have reportedly joined AS Roma in the race to sign Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi.
Striker hunt
While most of United’s focus has been on bolstering the midfield, a striker is also believed to be on the agenda, especially amidst the uncertainty surrounding the future of Joshua Zirkzee.
Zirkzee struggled for playing time last season under both Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick. He made 24 Premier League appearances, but only five were starts.
His limited involvement saw him miss out on a spot in the Netherlands national team for the 2026 World Cup. Zirkzee is said to be desperate for a bigger role, which is far from guaranteed at Old Trafford. This has opened up the possibility of him leaving before the close of the summer window.
A return to Italy has been mooted, with the likes of Juventus, Roma, AC Milan and Atalanta all mentioned as admirers. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Juventus have already made enquiries for the player.
There have even been suggestions that Zirkzee wants the switch to Turin. If he departs, United will almost certainly have to dip into the market for a replacement.
According to Het Laatste Nieuws journalist Tomas Taecke, Tresoldi has popped up on United’s radar.
Tresoldi interest
Taecke reveals that Club Brugge have no interest in sanctioning a sale for Tresoldi this summer. This has also been communicated to the player and his camp. Not even a record fee will be able to change the side’s stance.
Roma are also admirers of the player and recently saw a €35m bid for him turned down.
But the situation could be changed by United, who have been keeping tabs on Tresoldi for some time now. The feeling is that United could table more money for the 21-year-old. There is a risk that the player’s head could be turned, leaving Brugge in a very difficult position.
HLN add, “Tresoldi initially went along with Club’s vision: staying on board for one more season to then leave through the front door.”
“However, it remains to be seen how long this will last. And whether Club will actually succeed in keeping Tresoldi in Bruges, especially if AS Roma’s offer increases even further. Let alone if Man United makes a bid.”
Tresoldi enjoyed a superb 2025/26 season. He netted 19 goals and provided an additional five assists in 40 Pro League appearances. He finished as the league’s top scorer, guiding his team to the title.
Across all competitions, he notched 23 goals and eight assists.
