AS Roma have reportedly withdrawn from the race to sign Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi, but Manchester United may have to ward off competition from a Premier League foe.

United want Tresoldi

As uncertainty continues to shroud the future of Joshua Zirkzee, United are readying contingency plans in case they need to act swiftly.

Zirkzee, who struggled for playing time last season under both Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick, is drawing strong interest from Juventus. It’s believed that talks have already taken place between United and Juventus. Zirkzee is open to sealing a return to Serie A.

If the Dutchman leaves, he will need to be replaced, and this is where Tresoldi comes in. Last week, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are admirers of the Germany youth international.

Tresoldi only joined Club Brugge last summer from German second division side Hannover 96. After netting 14 goals in 96 games for Hannover, he enjoyed a breakout season in Belgium’s top flight. The forward scored 23 goals in 58 games, guiding Club Brugge to the title.

Even more appealing is that, at just 21, he still has plenty of room to develop.

It’s said that Roma lodged a €35m bid for Tresoldi, which was immediately turned down by Club Brugge. Tresoldi’s employers have no desire to let him leave this summer.

Now, HLN have provided an update on the situation.

Tresoldi update

According to the news outlet, Roma have called off their Tresoldi chase after Club Brugge rejected their offer and insisted the striker is not for sale.

United remain very much in the running for his signature despite Club Brugge’s stance. No amount of money will change their minds.

HLN further note, “Another Premier League club monitoring his situation is Chelsea FC. They are also interested, although so far no offer has been made from London either.”

Michael Carrick and his players return to pre-season action on Saturday when they face Atletico Madrid. Kick-off is at 2 pm.
