Manchester United were stopped in their tracks in their opening Premier League game of the season by newly promoted Hull City.
What made the defeat even harder to handle was the fact that Michael Carrick played two of his new midfield recruits in that game.
Youri Tielemans struggled badly alongside Andrey Santos and it highlighted how badly INEOS have botched the club’s midfield revamp plans.
A deal for Carlos Baleba was promptly agreed, but the Cameroonian is currently out injured, with indications that he will only return to action after the September international break.
Carlos Baleba training update
The Athletic‘s Laurie Whitwell has provided an interesting training update on the former Brighton & Hove Albion ace.
Speaking on Talk of The Devils podcast, the reporter revealed that Carlos Baleba will begin training on grass around the Ipswich game, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday.
“Maybe later in September. There was a suggestion that he could be on the grass around the Ipswich game — not for the Ipswich game.”
Whitwell also revealed that the Red Devils have plans to unveil their brand new defensive midfield signing in front of a packed Old Trafford before the Ipswich game.

“I imagine that United will present him on the pitch at Old Trafford on Sunday.”
It has become a norm at United nowadays, with Raphael Varane, Casemiro and last summer’s four signings all being paraded in front of the adoring fans before the start of the first home game of the season.
Fans will be hoping Carlos Baleba can regain full fitness soon, especially amid Tielemans’ struggles and Mason Mount’s injury woes.
Carrick definitely needs more quality and physicality in his engine room if he is to be successful this season.
