Manchester United began their Premier League campaign with a disappointing 0-2 defeat at the hands of newly promoted Hull City.
It was clear that INEOS had let Michael Carrick down by not successfully overhauling the team’s midfield as per the head coach’s instructions.
It has been clear for some time that the Red Devils need a physical presence in their engine room, something Youri Tielemans could not provide against the Tigers.
The co-owners promptly signed Carlos Baleba from Brighton & Hove Albion, and the club officially announced the deal on Tuesday.
Bruno Fernandes on Carlos Baleba
Bruno Fernandes, who was presented with the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award, was asked about the Cameroonian.
The Portuguese superstar was full of praise for the 22-year-old, highlighting exactly why the defensive midfielder is the perfect fit for the team’s style of play.
“A very energetic player, strong physically, someone who can push us up the pitch, driving the ball.
“Someone very young, also very exciting, and someone that I think the club has been following already for almost two years.
Carrick needs Carlos Baleba and fast
“And it’s a very good moment for the club, for us, and I think the fans will love him,” the club captain was quoted as telling HaytersTV.
The 20-time English league champions have plans of unveiling the Cameroon international in front of a packed Old Trafford before the Ipswich Town game.
Carlos Baleba is currently injured, but the expectation is that he will begin training on grass soon.
Hopefully, the fans can see the player in action after the September international break. Until that time, Carrick will need Tielemans and Andrey Santos to start performing.
At least until Kobbie Mainoo regains full match fitness or Mason Mount recovers from his injury.
