Manchester United wonderkid JJ Gabriel has officially demanded to leave the club, The Telegraph have revealed in a bombshell report.
United rocked
Few talents, if any, in United’s youth ranks are currently commanding the kind of attention and buzz Gabriel is.
Widely considered United’s best and brightest prospect, he has been tipped to make his senior debut this season. But for age restrictions and United’s miserable run of first-round exits from every competition last season, he could arguably already have made his mark in the senior ranks.
Gabriel has trained with the first team many times and both Carrick and Darren Fletcher have spoken about his huge potential. Ryan Giggs recently labelled him a “generational talent.”
Now, it seems United are facing a fight to keep the player.
The Telegraph’s Matt Law reports, “JJ Gabriel, the 15-year-old prodigy nicknamed “Kid Messi”, has unexpectedly asked to quit Manchester United.”
“In a move that has left United shocked and is almost unprecedented, Gabriel – whose full name is Joseph Junior Andreou Gabriel – has sent formal notice that he wishes to cancel his registration at the club with immediate effect to become a free agent.”
Law adds, “It is understood that Gabriel is not in line to immediately join another club, but has decided he wants to leave United – the club he has played for since the age of 11.”
It’s understood that United can challenge Gabriel’s decision to cancel his registration. Should United go down this road, one of the parties involved could force the Premier League to hand down a binding verdict. Whether United will actually pull the trigger remains to be seen.

United are said to still have hope of keeping Gabriel despite this shocking development.
Pick of clubs
As The Telegraph highlight, Gabriel is likely to be spoilt for choice when picking his next team.
Manchester City launched a charm offensive to snap him up last year, with the club’s chiefs pointing the success of academy graduates like Phil Foden and Nico O’Reilly. United managed to hold on to Gabriel then but City will now almost certainly return to the fray.
Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have all also previously been mentioned as admirers of the 15-year-old.
After his UEFA Youth League hat-trick against Sabah FK last week, Gabriel removed all United references from his social media.
Law points out that this is when Gabriel and his entourage approached United to make known their desire to leave.
Gabriel etched his name into the record books last season as the youngest-ever winner of United’s Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award, joining a roll of honour featuring Giggs, Norman Whiteside, Paul Scholes, Marcus Rashford and Mark Hughes.
