Manchester United welcome Brighton and Hove Albion to Old Trafford in the third round of the EFL Cup tonight.
The two sides have played one another 38 times in their history.
The Red Devils have won 23 times and lost on 10 occasions. The points have been shared on five occasions.
Here are three storylines to get the blood pumping ahead of the match.
Bogey side
It is safe to say that Brighton have been a thorn in the side of Manchester United in recent years.
The Red Devils did do the league double over the Seagulls last year, winning 4-2 at Old Trafford and 3-0 at the Amex. Nonetheless, they were beaten by Brighton 2-1 in the third round of the FA Cup.
In fact, Manchester United have just four wins in their last 10 matches against the south coast side. They have lost the other six matches.
First for Carrick
Michael Carrick had a dream second half of the season last year, guiding Manchester United to third place in the league.
After taking over in mid-January, he only took charge of league matches as Manchester United were not in Europe and had already been knocked out of both cup competitions.
The English boss has never taken charge of a cup match as Manchester United boss, and this will be his first.
Nonetheless, he does have history in this competition as a manager, reaching the semi-final with Middlesbrough in 2024, where they were eventually knocked out by Chelsea.
Bruno Fernandes effect
The Portugal international has had an unusual season in the sense that he has scored four goals in five matches but has looked out of place in certain games.
He was far from his fluent best in defeats to Hull City and Manchester City, but he has performed against the Seagulls before.
All in all, he has six goals against Brighton and will no doubt be looking to be on the scoresheet again tonight.
